The driver was able to escape the fire, but he still had to go to the hospital for injuries.
Vehicle fires are never good, but it can be especially dangerous when they occur as a result of a collision. We are happy to report that the driver of the Porsche 911 Carrera managed to escape the flames but was still taken to hospital with unknown injuries. It’s incredible that the driver was not killed when you look at the photos in the gallery. It’s almost a miracle that the driver survived the accident.
It occurred on November 8, at around midnight, along Federal Highway 9 in Germany. The accident happened near Dittersdorf, about 50 miles south-east of Leipzig. Although it is not known if the highway was subjected to speed limits on this stretch, it seems that the Carrera 997-era was traveling at a high speed. According to Facebook’s Fire Department Schleiz, the Porsche ripped up 160 feet (50m) of the guardrail before spinning and skidding almost 1,000 feet (300m) down the highway. It was believed that the car also rolled onto the roof in the uncontrolled skid.
German magazine Auto Bild reported that the initial impact of the crash was so strong that it tore apart the car’s fuel tank, which was also apparently quite full. Although no specific ignition source has been mentioned, sparks were evident all over the roads during the crash. The crash left pieces scattered across the road and caused heat damage to some tarmac.
Nobody knows the exact cause of the crash. Auto Bild claims the crash was probably caused by a flat tire. However, the intense blaze means there’s not much to be done. This Porsche will most certainly never again see the roads. The driver should make a full recovery.
