Porsche 911 Carrera Hits the Beach in Bad Boys For Life

Spoiler alert! The new Carrera 4S can boogie.

The latest Bad Boys For Life trailer shows all the ingredients that Hollywood looks for to succeed. Although the movie was released in theaters earlier this year, this clip from Porsche features a large chase scene to promote the film’s release on digital formats. The film has all the ingredients for a high-budget chase. It features flowing shots of the coast, a hip soundtrack and precision driving. Let’s have a closer look.

Porsche was determined to correct continuity mistakes that are often seen in Hollywood, where cars seem to have a 20-speed gearbox. Porsche went to great lengths in order to capture the sound of its Carrera as seen in the video.

Porsche actually mic’d the car to separate the engine noise and the sounds from the Miami coast. The automaker rented a California airport and sent in a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S as a stunt driver. A sound production team was also brought in to recreate the driving scenes. The car’s engine compartment was fitted with 14 microphone pick ups. Additional microphones were placed along the runway to record the sound of cars passing at high speed. The team went the extra mile and even laid sand on the asphalt to capture every sound possible.

Although not as fun, the team spent some time recording sounds like the doors opening and closing, the windows rolling down and the clicking sound of seatbelts. These little details may not seem important, but they are crucial to the film’s success.

The trailer’s precision driving is not only a sight to behold, but it also makes the engine noise a Hollywood spectacle. Will Smith’s Mike, who is played by Will Smith, misses a turn. This is our favorite part. He narrowly avoids a tour bus by drifting the 911 through an intersection after the misshapen maneuver. The encounter is quickly followed up by a detour to the beaches of Miami. Despite the fact that the Carrera 4S does not rally (although the 911 has a long history of rallying), the all-wheel drive system handles the off-road adventure with ease.

Mike performs a pirouette and then switches to driving backwards after the short beach tour. He jokes, “Even the Batmobile won’t hold it like this,” as he whizzes backwards along Miami’s streets. Mike and his partner make a J-turn, then slide their Porsche into the final parking spot.

We appreciate Porsche’s efforts to ensure that everything is perfect, even though many gearheads are quick to spot automotive continuity mistakes. What do you think about Porsche’s commitment? Comment below.

Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that the 911’s flat-six sound was distorted by a Carrera GT V10 engine. This was wrong. This story has been corrected with additional information about the production process. We are sorry for the error.
