We don’t know when the purist Carrera will be back with a 992-Series body.
The new Porsche 911 is coming soon. In just over a month, the 992-series supercar of the eternally-young will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new model will bring unprecedented changes to the car, not least hybrid power. The 911 Carrera T, a beloved 911 Carrera T, won’t be changed – or disappear.
August Achleitner, Porsche’s chief engineer, spoke to Road & Track at a recent event. He is the 911’s chief engineer and apparently a big fan of the Carrera T back-to-basics.
According to Track, Achletiner stated that “in the last half-year I almost only drove a Carrera T Manual and I love this vehicle.” It’s pure. A sunroof is the only other option that I have, aside from the navigation system. Wonderful.”
The Carrera T is essentially a 911 standard with more cornering and grip. It uses the same engine as the base Carrera. This is a 3.0-liter twin turbo flat six that produces 370 horsepower (276kW). Engineers then trim some fat from the 911 package, by replacing components normally found on higher-spec performance models such as the thinner, lighter windows of the GT2RS. You can plug in lightweight front seats with carbon fibre support and less sound deadening. Combining the weight savings and the optional rear steering (which is not available on the standard Carrera), you get Carrera concentrate, which is a purer version the base car that offers more engagement for less money than a GT model.
It’s not clear when the new Carrera T will debut, but it’s good to know that the more expensive models aren’t being overlooked.
