A little extra ground clearance can go a long ways.

Porsche is developing a new 911 model. That’s the one certainty in life. The 992.2 series will bring the first ever hybrid model, as well as the return of Sport Classic. We’re not going to talk about the facelifted model as it will receive a high-riding version. This could be called “Dakar”, or “Safari”. New spy footage shows the sports car standing on its own in winter wonderland.

Footage taken by CarSpyMediashows Porsche rented an exclusive road in Scandinavia between 1 and 6 pm on Tuesday, April 1. Not only did it do so for the 911 on stilts but also for a fleet of Cayenne prototypes. It’s clear that this is not your usual rear-engined Zuffenhausen machine. There’s a lot of space in the wheel well. This indicates a higher suspension travel and more ground clearance than the machine that is low-slung.

It is difficult to see the details in the black paint. However, eagle-eyed readers will spot the fender flares. The bold 911 has large wheel arches. To enhance its all-weather capability, the sports car will be equipped with all-wheel drive. If you need more power, then the base car could be a Carrera4S.

The rally-inspired Porsche has been in testing for for well over a decade. It should finally be covered later in 2022. It is not clear if it will be a limited edition or permanent addition to the ever-growing 911 range. Although the aftermarket is skilled in high-riding builds and some people prefer to spend their money on OEM products, others are more comfortable with an OEM product.

However, Ruf and Singer will continue to dream up their own ideas for an outdoor 911. Porsche wants to capitalize on the off-road craze. Although the Safari / Dakar will not be a Defender or a G-Class Defender, it will have better all-terrain capabilities that any other performance vehicle. This is not only Porsche, but also another VW Group member will follow this path. This is Lamborghini, its Huracan Sterrato and the Urus STX.
