Retro-modern style homage.

Automakers often create one-off versions of their vehicles. But what if they wanted to honor the original? Porsche is celebrating the first 911 to be sold in Australia.

Dean Williams, Porsche Centre Melbourne’s New Vehicle Sales Manager, stated that the idea was to take a 1965 911 911 and reimagine it.

The German automaker has created a 992 CarreraS Doppelgänger to pay homage the 1965 Steingrau 911 (Stone Gray). The new Porsche models were configured through the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur global networks. They are available as an iteration of the original. The new color “Crayon”, which is a shade of stone gray, was not available in Porsche’s 2020 swatches. Exterior modifications include 5-spoke 20-/21-inch wheels that shroud black brakes (as on the original).

Although the exterior styling is reminiscent of the original, it offers more than meets your eye. The 1965 model had a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, the new car has an 8-speed PDK. Customers down under can enjoy the exclusivity and modern technology of the older model while Porsche’s 992 is available

Interior modifications can be more subtle than exterior ones. Original design featured green leather with a matching maple yellow dashboard and wooden steering wheel that perfectly frame the gauges. It’s not difficult to improve the interior design of 1965; it featured a range of colors that are unheard of today.

The Agave Green Club Leather is used to cover the 14-way adjustable seats of the 992. There are matching seatbelts and contrast exterior colored stitching. The seats are complemented by lighter shades of leather throughout the vehicle. Illuminated door sills pay tribute to the 1965 model upon which the 992 was based are displayed as the occupants enter and exit.

The package isn’t a limited-run model but it’s great to know that the German automaker values popularity more than rarity.
