All things can be solved by friction
Mat Watson of Carwow has a history of driving very special cars. The team’s latest video features the Porsche 911 Turbo S against the Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder. The Porsche is unbeaten in drag racing video, but it faces serious competition this time.
Watson has the latest 911 Turbo and 650 horsepower (484 Kilowatts) as well as 590 pound-feet (890 Newton-meters). Although the Ferrari is lighter and produces 720 horsepower (536 kW), it has a disadvantage in terms of its rear-wheel-drive power distribution. The Lamborghini, however, has all-wheel drive, just like the Porsche but with slightly less power.
It’s evident that the 911 is unbeaten in standing quarter-mile. The 911’s off-the line traction gives it an advantage that it can keep throughout the race. Watson stated that Porsche’s launch control system and PDK gearbox are a formidable combination in a quarter mile situation. We don’t doubt the outcome might have been different in a half-mile situation.
Although the Ferrari and Lamborghini couldn’t win the first drag race, they sound a lot better that the German counterpart. The turbocharged 911 engine mutes the exhaust note. However, the Ferrari’s powerplant is also boosted. The 488 makes a distinct sound, even if it is not as loud as the V10 Lamborghini’s roar.
Although it wasn’t successful at first, the Ferrari’s featherweight performance helped it win the rolling race as well as the braking test. Its grunt was a huge advantage but in the brake test, things were closer. The Porsche won by a narrow margin due to its massive carbon-ceramic brakes. This compares to the Porsche’s 1,385 kilogram (3,053 lb)
It’s always a good thing when cars this high-quality can make a mess and run wild on a runway.
