The year 2018 marks seven decades of Porsche sport cars. What better way to commemorate this milestone than by releasing a retro-flavored vehicle? Porsche Classic’s 993 pays homage to the past and draws inspiration from the Turbo S Exclusive Series, where it has the bright Golden Yellow Metallic paint. The car was unveiled at the end of August, and it was sold recently at the Porsche Experience Centre Atlanta. It was a great deal.
Project Gold generated 37 bids during the RM Sotheby’s – The Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction 2018. This was a remarkable feat considering that the highest bidder was EUR2,743,500, which is approximately $3.12M at current exchange rate. Do not assume that Porsche will spend the money. All net proceeds (EUR2,589.027 / 2.94M) will go towards the non-profit Ferry Porsche Foundation.
The Project Gold is not just a Porsche Classic 993 to replace Singer or other restomodders. The project took 18 months and required the installation of a new twin-turbo flat six engine with 450hp.
The Porsche Classic catalog was extensive and the unique Nine Eleven selected the all-wheel drive system and the manual transmission. The Project Gold’s chassis number is hand-stamped to match the number of the last 993 Turbo, which was built 20 years ago.
The car is not legal for road use. Project Gold cannot be driven on public roads. However, Project Gold can only be driven on private tracks in certain parts of the world. This is because the car doesn’t comply with strict noise and emissions regulations.
