Porsche celebrates its 70th anniversary with the return of Rothmans and Pink Pig color schemes
Porsche announced it will bring back some vintage liveries for the 2018 Le Mans 24 Hours Race, which starts in less than two weeks.
Two factory-run 911 RSR race cars will be decorated with iconic colors from the 1970s & 1980s as part of the brand’s 70 th anniversary celebrations.
The number 91 car will be driven by Gianmaria Bruni of Italy, Frederic Makowiecki from France, and Richard Lietz from Austria. It will sport the blue-and-white color scheme of the 956 C cars that won the Le Mans race in the early 1980s.
Kevin Estre of France, Laurens Vanthoor from Belgium, and Michael Christensen of Denmark will drive the number 92 car. The famous ‘Pink Pig” design will also be displayed starting at the 917/20 in 1971.
The new designs make it clear that both the race machines will be identical and represent two of four 911 RSRs Porsche is planning to field on the Circuit de la Sarthe’s large grid. The Porsche livery will also be used for the two other cars, numbered 93-94.
Six additional 911 RSRs will also be on the starting line. However, these cars will not be raced by Porsche but rather customer teams.
“With these beloved designs, we want thank our loyal supporters, who have cheered us both on the track at every race but especially at Le Mans where we as record holders with 19 outright wins received incredible support each year,” stated Dr Frank-Steffen Wallace, Porsche’s vice president for motorsport and GT cars.
