No roof rails? It’s no problem.
We saw a naked Taycan Cross Turismo prototype a few days ago. At first glance, it looked identical to the spy photos. The vehicle was also captured on the streets in Germany. However, it has a different number plate and the roof is smoother than a new guitar’s neck.
Although this is not the first Cross Turismo vehicle without roof rails, it is the first smooth-roof that we have seen. It doesn’t make much difference. However, with the removal of the side-rear camo, the Cross Turismo looks very similar to the Panamera Sport Turismo in appearance. The Cross Turismo might be better suited to the rails, all things being equal. It’s still a striking wagon.
Similar to the prototype that we caught on camera, this one appears to have stickers on its front fascia. These appear in the form LED strips. This is likely to keep the front fascia a mystery until Porsche makes its official debut with a reveal. We hope they are fake, as the strips aren’t straight and would make Taycan’s face look squarish. The front of this car appears to be riding too high, with a lot of wheel gap between the fenders. It is a Cross Turismo, so some extra clearance is normal. Maybe the roof rails missing are causing us to be a little confused.
No matter what exterior details you choose, the interior should look exactly like the standard Taycan sedan. This is a good thing as the all-electric driveline can produce as much as 761 horsepower (567kilowatts) for each of the four wheels. This means that 60 mph can be reached in just 2.6 seconds. The milder version should only have around 530 horsepower (395 kW), though we don’t know the pricing yet. We expect it to be in the six-figures.
When will it be revealed? A debut of a prototype Porsche without camo is usually weeks away. The 2020 Los Angeles Auto Show would have taken place at the end of November. Porsche could be using that time frame to celebrate Taycan Cross Turismo.
