Prodrive P25 is a celebration of Subaru’s relationship in the 1990s. It creates a road-legal model based on the 1997 Impreza World Rally Car 22B. Subie won that year’s WRC manufacturers’ championship, while Colin McRae, its driver was second in drivers’ standings.
The 2.5-liter turbocharged flat four engine makes more than 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) for the P25. The engine runs through a semi-automatic six-speed gearbox with paddle shifters behind it. Prodrive claims that the model is made of a lot of carbon fiber in order to reduce weight.
Teaser sketch shows an Impreza with mixed influences. The large, low-mounted fog lamps are from the 22B. Similar to the aerodynamic side mirrors on the rally car, the aerodynamic side mirrors look similar. The drawing shows that the front flares of the front fender flares look more aggressive than the original models. Instead of the bronze-colored original look, it rides on Prodrive-branded multi-spoke wheels.
The interior of the P25 is still unknown.
Prodrive announced that the P25 will have a lightweight chassis. It is not clear if the company will modify existing Imprezas or build the entire vehicle from scratch.
The P25 was made possible by some of the people who worked on the ’97 rally vehicle. According to Prodrive, Peter Stevens, the original author, “defined” the design of the new model. David Lapworth was the technical director of the firm and worked on both the engineering.
Prodrive will only build 25 copies of the P25. The P25 will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in May. The company is now accepting expressions of interest and will deliver the first model before the end. Pricing details are not available at the moment.
