You will see a completely different final design than what you see.
Cupra first introduced the Tavascan name in September 2019, when the Spanish performance brand presented a concept car with this name. The prototype was built on Volkswagen’s MEB architecture and featured a fully-electric powertrain with two motors for each axle. The prototype was a preview of the marque’s first high-riding EV, and now work has begun on its production version. The gallery below shows the first spy photos taken by our photographers at the Nurburgring, and other public roads.
The Tavascan does not use its production body at the moment, as you can see. The test vehicle is equipped with a Volkswagen ID.4 chassis, although there’s lots of camouflage on the front fascia. Although we are unable to determine if the disguise conceals the Tavascan’s front-end design, it appears that the prototype features a very different layout from the ID. The headlights are slimmer, and the bumper’s lower section has a completely different layout. However, the rear end is almost identical to a stock ID.4.
The Tavascan, according to our knowledge, will be the most sporty compact EV SUV in Volkswagen Group’s lineup. It will look like a coupe-styled crossover. The Tavascan will share its foundations with the Skoda Enyaq and VW ID.4, which will allow for a variety of versions in terms of power output and battery size. The most powerful variant will feature a dual-motor layout that produces more than 300 horsepower (220kW), which is similar to the Tavascan Concept.
SEAT’s performance brand teased the final design for the Tavascan at the Unstoppable Impulse event in June. The public was shown a prototype of the vehicle. It suggested that the production model would be faithful to the showcar’s design from nearly three years ago. The Tavascan will be available on the European market in the next year, although there is no official debut date. Cupra is currently working on a new version of the VW ID.3-based born electric hatchback.
