Mercedes-Benz plans to produce 20-30 units every year of the 6×6 AMG.
The G-Class’s exotic three-axle G-Class is expected to be three times more expensive than its regular G63 AMG (137,000 EUR), which makes it the second-most expensive Mercedes-Benz model, after the Electric Drive (416.500 EUR). It will be available for purchase in October.
Autoweek saysthe car is built on the G320 CDI, which was developed for the Australian Army. It measures 5867mm (231.3 ins) long, 2111mm (83.1 ins) wide, 2209mm (87 ins) high, and 1105mm (43.5ins) longer than the standard 2013 G63 AMG.
While the military model has a 3.0-liter diesel engine, and a 5-speed automatic version, this civilian version features a V8 5.5 liter bi-turbo engine that produces 536 horsepower (400 kW) as well as 560 lbft (758 Nm). The power unit can be linked to a 7G-tronic seven-speed transmission.
Chief of G-Class development Axel Harries says the car will do 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than 6 seconds on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h). The 6×6 G63AMG returns 13 mpg US (or 18 liters/100 km).
It has a ground clearance of 460mm (8.8 inches) and a weight of 3,775 kg (8.322 lbs). It has huge 37-inch wheels with 52 and 54 degree approach and departure angles, respectively. It has a stainless-steel roll cage and a payload of 650kg (1,433 lbs).
