When the PSA-FCA merger has been officially announced, it gave birth to the fourth-largest automaker in the world, next to the VW Group, Toyota, and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. This new merger brings together automakers from various countries and equates to 8.7 million cars annually.However, it is important to remember that the merger raises a question: will both brands survive after the merger at 50/50?

Notable is the fact that PSA covers four automakers: Peugeot, Citroen and DS as well as Opel/Vauxhall. FCA, on the other hand has nine carmakers, including Abarth and Alfa Romeo.

In an interview with BFM BUSINESS, a French television station, Carlos Tavares, CEO of PSA, shed light on the matter.According to Automotive News Europe, Tavares reported that neither FCA nor PSA plans to eliminate any brands as a result the merger. It gives us a base from which to build our future. Today, I don’t see the need to remove brands if this deal is completed. They all have their histories and have their strengths.

Tavares said that the brands are complementary geographically. Automotive News Europe reported FCA’s North American revenue was 66%, compared to PSA’s 5.7%. PSA, on the other hand gets most of its revenues from Europe.
