While buying a new car has many benefits, there are some disadvantages that you should consider before making the purchase. You will have to follow the maintenance schedule exactly, and you’ll also need to deal with the depreciation. You’ll end up looking like this man in Ontario, Canada. After failing to change the oil on time, the warranty was voided. Meet Moses Fosuo. He purchased a brand new 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel with a 100,000-kilometer (62,000 mile) warranty. The truck’s engine suddenly seized and the odometer showed 91,000 kilometers (56.544 miles) It had been a reliable vehicle that was well-suited to a family with two children and dogs.

Fosuo, an electrician from Bowmanville (ON), contacted the dealer to discuss his surprise predicament. He didn’t know that the warranty was invalid after he failed to perform the oil change as per the paperwork. He spoke out about his difficult situation to CTV News Toronto.

The oil was changed by Fosuo, but it was done by a third party shop. Fosuo was told that he could use the EcoDieselpickup up to 24,000 km (14,913 miles), before having to change the oil again. According to the truck’s owner, his Ram didn’t come with a manual. It was integrated into the infotainment system. He didn’t inspect it so he wasn’t able to know if he needed to change the oil every 16,000km (9,942miles) or every 12 months (whichever came first).

When CTV News Toronto contacted Ram’s parent company Stellantis, a spokesperson said: Fosuo now has to pay for the engine replacement from his own pocket. He will have to pay 19,000 Canadian dollars plus taxes, which is approximately 15,000 US dollars. He doesn’t have enough money to fix the truck and will likely scrap it. If there is one lesson to be learned from buying a car, it’s that you have to deal with certain responsibilities if you want a valid warranty.
