It could be powered from the heart of a Hellcat.
After months of speculation, FCA finally revealed Ram will soon be able to compete with the Ford F-150 Raptor — the Ram TRX. The automaker now has the Ram 1500 platform, so it is trying to increase its offerings and trims in order to gain more market share. Ford, the domestic rival of Ford, is one way to achieve this – and please truck lovers at the same time.
Although the announcement is welcome news, details remain scarce in an otherwise busy day that includes product news from Jeep and Alfa Romeo. 5thGenRams reported that there might be two new truck models, a more refined TR and a more performance-oriented TRX. The TR has not been mentioned.
In 2016, Ram introduced the Ram Rebel TX concept, which first suggested an off-road performance truck. This was a 575-horsepower study to gauge public interest. Ram has confirmed that we will be receiving the TRX. This must have been a high level of interest. Additionally, such a vehicle could allow the automaker increase its profit margins.
The TRX concept featured a powerful V8 engine. However, it is believed that the production version will have the same power as the Hellcat 707-horsepower engine. The setup will be identical to that found in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, in which engineers were able strengthen various driveline components to increase power.
The TRX is only a matter time. As Ram’s five-year plan was laid out today in Italy, it should happen before 2022. Ram is unlikely to delay joining the race, considering that the Raptor is the only off-road performance truck with its class on the market.
