Gerry McGovern claims Beckham exaggerated her role in designing the car.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s designer, has taken aim at Victoria Beckham – claiming that Victoria Beckham exaggerated her role in the design of the Evoque VB special Edition.

Beckham stated that he had designed the car to be a car he wanted to drive and that he thought his husband David would enjoy it.

Five years later, McGovern, who designed the Evoque, has revealed to reporters that McGovern spoke out of turn as he unveiled the limited edition SUV with rose gold highlights and a bespoke set of luggage for him-and-her.

At a press conference last week, Land Rover’s chief design officer stated that “She didn’t design the car.” I’ve forgotten more about designing than any woman. It takes many years to become a car designer. It was presented in China by her when she spoke up before the press.

Beckham was given the task of creating a limited edition Evoque, which would only be 200 units. He used “restrained color changes and detail changes” to keep the overall design unchanged. Land Rover released the following statement: “The three year project was completed by both parties. It was a tremendous creative success worldwide.” Mrs Beckham is still part of the Land Rover family.

Beckham sold her special edition model in 2016, having driven 1,400 miles in three years. To secure a sale, the dealership that sold the Evoque to Beckham initially listed it at PS80,000 (roughly $104,588 at current exchange rates). However, it was later reduced to PS55,000 ($71.905).
