Rare Audi R8 V10 Spyder Manual Goes For Autobahn Top Speed Run

This unicorn can run.

Today’s supercars are faster and more efficient than the predecessors. The combination of precision launch control and a quick-shifting auto gearbox makes it impossible to predict how the supercars will perform. They were abandoned by customers long before the carmakers removed the third pedal. However, this makes machines like this Audi R8V10 Spyder a rare breed.

The R8 shown in the video has a highly sought-after gated shifter. This is not geared towards giving drivers the fastest shifts. It focuses instead on driver satisfaction. It doesn’t mean that the Audi is an inferior vehicle. Drop-top R8 comes with a naturally-aspirated V10, another engine on the verge of extinction. The engine’s 5.2-liter displacement produces 525 horsepower (391 Kilowatts) as well as 396 pound-feet (536 Newton meters) of torque. Audi’s Quattro all wheel-drive system routes the power to all four wheels.

The video has the supercar hitting the German Autobahn in an attempt to reach the car’s 194-mile-per-hour (313-kilometer-per-hour) top speed. The open road does not provide enough asphalt for the car to reach its maximum speed. The car can reach speeds of 177 mph (286 km/h) on the two-lane highway. This is still quite a high speed and can cause you to be pulled over in the States.

The R8 in this video is a first-generation model. It received a mid-cycle facelift which gave it a more round appearance. Surprisingly the R8 V10 was not the most powerful R8 as Audi also offered the R8 V10 Plus or the R8 GT which both had more horsepower. The R8 V10 with a convertible top, and a manual transmission is something that’s special. These are better suited to the V8 offerings, but someone wanted to drive their V10-powered R8 to its full potential.
