It is pure chaos.
Vehicle tomfoolery is a common occurrence in the United States. Demolition derbies and lawnmower races are just a few of the many forms of grassroots motorsports that take place in front of packed grandstands. The audience is fed by fried food, booze, and other entertainments. Trailer races are a great way to have fun. Dinged-up cars pull other dinged up travel trailers, with the aim of becoming the last remaining vehicle. This is a glorified demo derby that causes a lot of destruction. It was held at a German model expo and it is the perfect format to have radio-controlled fun.
The video you see above is from the Welt des Modellbaus, the World of Model Building. It’s held in Osnabruck Germany. If you are in the area, this year’s event will be held later in the month. Many exhibitors will be there to display their miniatures and RC vehicles. One event features RC cars racing on a temporary course. Toy cars can slide and turn while others climb a ramp to get some air.
A lot of cars colliding into one corner can lead to some serious damage. Cars may crash, collide, tip-over, tip over or be pushed off the course completely. Already the cars are susceptible to sliding, and trailers only magnify the problem. They are also easy targets for competitors looking to get rid of them. They smash, collide and then zip along their way. As you would expect in a trailer race, some trailers sustain damage.
RC cars can be fun for everyone. The level of involvement can vary from the casual hobbyist to the serious enthusiast. It’s still fun and accessible. These are great ways for kids to learn about motoring at a level they can understand. Although it may not be a well-known sport, it’s still fun to see the cars crash and the children’s joy – and that’s a lot.
