This could confuse other motorists and allow you to shift out of park without using the brake pedal.
A recall has been issued for the 2013 Hyundai Elantra because its brake lights are not working properly. The brake light switch could be defective and prevent the lights from turning off. This could cause confusion for other drivers as they wouldn’t know if the Elantra is actually braking. This could allow drivers to shift the transmission from park to stop using the brake pedal. Hyundai claims that the brake pedal stopper pads can wear over time. This eventually causes the brake light switch to stay depressed, even though the pedal is not. Hyundai noticed the problem first in 2014 when there were a lot of warranty claims. These claims grew in 2015 and 2016. Hyundai issued a recall that affects approximately 64,500 Elantras across the U.S.
