Austrian politician hopes Red Bull Racing will move its Formula One team to Austria over the next few years.

Dietrich Mateschitz, team owner, has been financing the restoration of A1-Ring circuit. It was destroyed after formula one’s last visit in 2003.

Christian Buchmann, a Styrian economic advisor, told laola1.at the track would be ready for races in April or May next year.

It was rumored earlier that the track was being considered as a reserve venue for F1.

Dr Buchmann stated that it was formula-one compatible from a safety and technical standpoint. “But, to speak about F1 racing in Spielberg now is premature.”

The restored A1-Ring was not designed to host grands prix because it has a capacity of only 25,000 spectators.

Buchmann stated: “Personally, I dream that Mr Mateschitz would move one of his race groups to Spielberg.

“It would be wonderful to see Red Bull with an Austrian license and also with an Austrian base.”
