Volkswagen Group has set new standards with its latest wave of compact cars, starting with the eighth generation Golf and fourth iteration modern Skoda Octavia. We wonder what Audi has in store for the more expensive, but mechanically similar A3. Last week, the new A3 in sedan form was seen . Although it didn’t have any camouflage, it did have a car covering that obscured what would be an evolutionary design. Mercedes has launched an A-Class Sedan. This means Audi’s next A3 Sedan is going to have to compete with the best. This is especially true when you consider that the slimmer CLA is much more popular than ever before, and BMW has just launched a new 2Series Gran Coupe. The exterior will not be significantly different from the current car but the interior will undergo major changes. In particular, the MMI infotainment tablet will be replaced with a touchscreen integrated into its center console.
The cabin’s fit and finish should remain at a higher standard than the Golf’s. However, the MQB-based updates could result in some space improvements for passengers and their luggage. The engine options for the smallest Audi sedan will be similar to its MQB-based siblings. This should include mild-hybrid technology and a plug in hybrid powertrain.
The A3 should be launched in 2020 as a Sportback in Europe, before being made into a trunk for the A3 Sedan in the United States. The S3 will likely be launched in 2021. However, the has already spotted the RS3 which will arrive later with the magnificent five-cylinder turbo engine producing nearly 400 horsepower.
