Automotive industry continues to experience the wind of change.

Opel, Kia and Peugeot have all had their logos updated in recent years. Renault will do the same in 2022, when its first production car will sport the new corporate badge. It features a flat design and two interlaced diamonds. The new avatar was first revealed in January with the 5 prototype. However, Renault did not reveal any details. Well, at least until now.

Although it is not clear which road-going model will bear the new badge, logic suggests that it will be a production copy of the Megane concept. Spy shots revealed that the electric crossover has reached prototype, and that all logos were hidden behind camouflage on the test vehicles. The production car will be revealed later in the year. However, deliveries are expected to begin in 2022.

Gilles Vidal is the Renault design director. He says that all Renault cars will be using the new logo by 2024. The badge has seen many changes since 1900. The latest version was introduced in 2015. It is an updated version of the 1992 emblem. Renault has been working on a new corporate look since 2019, and decided to display it first on an electric supermini. This prototype is a sign of Renault’s plans to embrace electrification.

Renault’s ninth identity overhaul since inception will see the redesigned logo. It is described as “uncluttered”, with no signature and typography. Gilles Vidal says it’s now more iconic, simple, and meaningful. It is a true timeless signature without any superfluous effects or color, with a modern takeover of lines, which is an integral part of our graphic heritage.

This was shown on the Bigster compact SUV, which was introduced at the start of the year. It will be quite different from the current Romanian logo, which many describe as looking like a bottle opener. The new badge will have stylized letters in the “D” and “C”, facing opposite directions. It might remind you of the DeLorean DMC-12.
