Renault Master and Trafic Vans Revealed. Plus, Electric Concept

Vans with updated design and tech have been facelifted.

Renault also revealed new versions of its Master and Trafic vans as well as an electric concept van, which previews the new Kangoo.

The Master’s flagship model has received a facelift with a new front design that incorporates the C-shaped light signature from the Renault car line, as well as a taller grille. The new dash has chrome trim to give it a better finish, better upholstery, and complete integration with the infotainment screen.

However, changes under the skin are more noticeable. A rear-view camera system as well as a crosswind system assist the driver in correcting any direction change caused by air hitting the vehicle’s sides. The system can be activated at speeds exceeding 43 mph (70 km/h), and it is capable of providing up to half the steering power required for “extreme” conditions.

Other driver assistance systems include front parking sensors that detect vehicles in the blind spot above the driver’s shoulders and autonomous braking which operates at highway speeds and urban speeds to stop or mitigate any impending accidents if they have not been noticed.

The new van will be powered by a range of 2.3-liter diesel engine options with a variety of power outputs. Customers have the option of either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and can get engine power outputs up to 178 horsepower. Renault will offer an electric Master for city-operators, with a range of 75 miles (121 km) and is designed for “last-mile” deliveries.

The smaller Trafic has had a little nip and tuck. It has the same C-shaped light signature as the Master and has received a new grille. The cabin has also been updated with new upholstery and satin chrome buttons. The engine bay has undergone some changes, just like the Master. There are now two-liter diesel engines that can be ordered along with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Trafic will have passenger-carrying options, unlike the Master. These versions are aimed at large families and minicab companies, but not the Master. The SpaceClass version with leather seats and diamond-finish alloys will be the most luxurious, while the Trafic Passenger is the more practical, utilitarian option.

The new Kangoo ZE Concept is a further option. The design study is said to be a preview of the next-generation electric Kangoo van. It uses more rounded lines to imitate the company’s passenger cars. Green touches are used to indicate the vehicle’s position in Renault’s “work” section.
