Renault appears to be the second formula one team to remove the F-duct from its car for this year’s Italian grand prix.
It was revealed that McLaren, the pioneers of technology, had been considering the removal of the F-duct to Monza.
The Autodromo Nazionale’s long straights seem ideal for speed-boosting devices.
However, considering the circuit’s ultra-low downforce nature, a lighter, more aerodynamic and efficient rear wing or engine cover may be a better choice.
Renault finally sent its F-duct to R30 this weekend for the Spa-Francorchamps Event, where Robert Kubica was an outstanding performer.
He stated that the F-duct performed “very well” over the weekend.
He said that he was pleased to have finished second in Sunday’s race, but that it would be a difficult race at Monza. It’s a totally different track, and I will most likely not have the Fduct there.
The Pole stated that the F-duct would not likely be fitted to the car in the Singapore street race. This could be because the layout is not straight enough.
Kubica stated that Singapore should be a good choice for her. It is a good track, but we don’t likely have the F-duct there.
McLaren has not yet confirmed whether the F-duct will be removed from Monza’s MP4-25.
Martin Whitmarsh, team boss, stated that he doesn’t believe it is a good idea to tell our competitors what they are doing before they get there.
