A series of photos showing a hotter Clio RS model have been found.
We have only these photos via TheAutomobilist.fr that show what appears to be a Clio RS hardcore with a more aggressive body. There are noticeable differences between the regular and RS versions, such as a beefier wheel arch and more prominent side skirts. Renault Sports has also fitted the pocket rocket to cool the brakes, and to increase downforce with a prominent rear wings. The engineers are believed to be massaging the turbocharged, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine to add 30 horsepower (22kilowatts) and deliver a total of 250 hp (286 kW). The torque figure is not known, but it could be higher than the current 192 pound feet (260 newton metres). The Clio Renaultsport 220-Trophy EDC already has an overboost function that, upon activation, temporarily increases torque to 207 lb/ft (280 Nm), making it ideal for overtaking. The “220” version is faster at 62 mph (100 kph), and the top speed is 146 mph (235 kph). This higher-powered Clio RS should run even faster.
It is expected that the company sporting the diamond logo will introduce it as a concept at next weekend’s Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix. Renault will launch a production version if the feedback is positive. The concept seems almost ready to go on the assembly line. Nevertheless, the regular Clio will soon get a facelift so it makes sense that the powered-up RS would include the cosmetic tweaks. It remains to be determined if the production approval is granted. Our sources say that a press release is coming soon. Keep an eye on this space for more information and images.
