Report: Datsun to be terminated as part of Nissan's cost-cutting plan

The company wants to increase its profitability.

atsun is Nissan’s entry-level model. It may not last long. A report by Reuters shows that the newly revived brand is not diversifying the company’s new vehicle sales to countries like Indonesia. Instead, Datsun is reducing sales of Nissan-branded vehicles.

Dat Datsun, Son:

Rumored Datsun’s death is part of a company-wide plan that’s internally called the “performance recovery program.” The plan aims at reducing the size and presence of the automaker and its sales.

Nice Nissan, Bro:

Reuters reports that Nissan will reduce production at several factories in China and reduce sales of its fleet. For example, the 2020 Nissan Titan and TitanXD pickups will not offer the popular single-cab body style nor diesel engine option on the trucks.

New Nissans Are Coming!

In the 1930s, Datsun was introduced. However, it was eventually phased out to be replaced by the Nissan nameplate. The Datsun brand was relaunched by Nissan in 2013 as a low-priced option to its own products in countries like India, Indonesia and Russia. Datsun has a wide range of vehicles in its lineup today.

We reached out to Nissan to get their comment on reports about Datsun’s death. It doesn’t matter what the future holds for Datsun, but it is clear that Nissan must make drastic changes if it wants to increase profitability.
