Report: GM Considers Supercharged Escalade Tahoe, Tahoe, and Yukon

Finally, some grunt to go with the full-size options of GM.

In the last two years, GM’s full-size SUV line was completely redesigned. All three Cadillac Escalade models, the GMC Yukon and the Chevrolet Tahoe have been completely redesigned for the 2021 model years. These large SUVs can be equipped with either a naturally aspirated V8 engine or a six-cylinder turbodiesel motor. The trio may now have another option for a powertrain.

According to Motor Trend, GM may be considering a supercharged version for all three full-size SUVs. The dealer would install the supercharger, which could theoretically add 200 horsepower (149kilowatts), to the standard V8 of 6.2-liters. This engine produces 420 HP (313kW). If this report is accurate, that would mean that the supercharged SUVs could produce just under 600 horsepower (447 kW).

The Tahoe’s powerful engine would make it a better choice against powerful competitors like the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk or Dodge Durango Hellcat, both of which have over 700 horsepower (522 kW). The Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon would be competing with more expensive options like the Mercedes AMG GLS63. Although this is not a full-on Escalade V model, is reportedly still available.

Although the report does not indicate the cost of the bolt-on supercharger, MT suggests that it might not be the only option for the trio. The lineup could be expanded with a second performance package, which would add more power and have slightly modified suspensions. We will have to wait to hear from GM about any of the upgrades.
