Report: GM has axed the GMC-Branded Ford Bronco Rival

The Chevy Silverado was not up to its predecessor’s off-road abilities from the moment we first saw the camouflaged prototype. The Blazer’s design was obscured by the camo, but it couldn’t hide the traditional crossover shape beneath. It was impossible to imagine it competing with the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. It is also troubling to learn that General Motors was looking at a Jeep Wrangler, and Ford Bronco competitors for GMC. This would be a body-on frame midsize SUV. The publication claims that GM axed its GMC-Branded Ford Bronco Rival in November 2018. It announced a massive restructuring of the business, including layoffs and plant closings. It is a strange business decision to cancel what could have been an extremely compelling and capable off-road SUV in a growing market segment.

The GMC-branded SUV was not directly involved in the decision to end the program. The 32XX platform would have been the base for the new SUV. However, GM decided that a better option would be to. The GMC-branded 32XX platform and the GMC-branded body on-frame SUV are now dead. However, this doesn’t mean that GM has stopped looking at a Bronco or Wrangler competitor in some way.
