It is still a few more years away.
The new Ford Maverick has just hit the market. It’s easy to forget the Ford Ranger only two years old. After an eight-year absence, the mid-size pickup returned to the US in 2019. Some are looking forward to the next generation of pickups, which is expected to go on sale in the States in 2023, according reports.
The Ranger6G.com forum has an insider from Ford telling the site that the new Ranger will be launched globally in 2023. It will launch first in Australia and Thailand, before moving to the US the following year. The new truck is internally called the P703, while the P703N designation is used for the US.
According to the report, Ford created the final design for the next-generation Ranger in 2019 just like the current model. Production will start at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant on May 1, 2023. The pickup will be available for purchase at dealerships by July 3, 2023. It is expected to last eight years.
Although it’s too early to know if these reports are true, the timeline is reasonable. We’ve seen the Ranger tested in multiple locations all over the globe. An plug in prototype was found in southern Europe. We know it could produce as much as 362 horsepower (266kilowatts). Spy photographers also captured a left hand-drive Ranger Raptor near Ford headquarters in Dearborn.
Ford has invested more than $1B in the production of the Ranger. The company will export the Ranger to more than 100 countries. This new truck is part a partnership with Volkswagen. Volkswagen will receive its own Amarok from the deal. The trucks are expected to debut in 2023.
