The 2+2 sportscar is expected to be built on the 2019 F-Type.
It is a well-known fact that Jaguar intends to expand its sports car lineup beyond the F Type range. What are their plans? Recent talks have suggested that a redesigned XK could be added to the F-Type to provide more space for rear passengers and a practical alternative. This scenario appears to be more likely if we rely on a recent report from Autocar. According to sources close to Jaguar, a successor to the XK is in the works but will not be released before 2021. Interestingly, a concept design for a third-generation XK was already in place before the nameplate’s death back in 2014. However, Jag ultimately decided to discontinue the model and focus on other models.

If a new XK is ever made, it will reportedly be based on the next generation F Type which is expected to arrive as soon as next year. Current F-Type uses the same underpinnings as the old XK, and will get new hardware in its next iteration. Jaguar engineers can modify the setup to create a larger 2+2 model. This is similar to the grand tourer that was canned after the XKR Final Fifty Edition.
The F-Type and XK replacements will use JRL’s Ingenium four-and six-cylinder engines. They are expected to spawn SVR models sharing the supercharged 5.0-liter engine. Although it is not clear at this time whether the new hardware will allow for a plug-in hybrid powertrain or not, it is likely that such a day will come sooner than expected. Jaguar is certain of one thing: Jaguar sees a bright future for sports cars. It will invest in performance models to make it more profitable.
