Ricardo, an engineering firm, teams up with the U.S. Military to create an ecofriendly war vehicle.
Ricardo Engineering has teamed up to make this FED ALPHA armored personnel carrier that is more fuel-efficient.
FED ALPHA is part the Fuel Efficient Ground vehicle Demonstrator program (FED), which is run by the U.S Army’s Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center. The vehicle is currently being tested at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland.
Alcoa Defense lightweight aluminum structures with armoring and a blast shield under the body make up the FED ALPHA. The Cummins I4 engine is featured in the vehicle. A six-speed Aisin automatic transmission drives it. Goodyear Fuel Max low-roll resistance tires are also fitted to the FED ALPHA.
Robert Ellis, Ricardo’s U.S. subsidiary said that TARDEC is a great organization and that they are happy to support it in its goal to improve the fuel efficiency of U.S Army’s vehicle fleet.
The vehicle will be displayed at the AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, D.C. on October 10-12.
