Richard Hammond’s Dream Car Is a Ford Ranger He Loves, Mostly

It’s a pickup truck, but that’s not the problem.

Richard Hammond seems to be quite in love with the car he purchased. You should really think about that. Actually, it’s not a car, but a pickup truck. He doesn’t just have any truck. His new rig is a Ford Ranger Wildtrak that he shared with everyone in a Drivetribe video. Hammond says he has officially become a “full truck.”

Evidently, the Ranger Raptor that he used to help him with his midlife crisis was only half of a truck. Maybe three-quarters. It could have been a Ford promotion, as the videos’ not-so-fine text clearly indicated. There are no disclaimers this time. According to the Hampster, it is his truck. He bought it and paid for it with his own money. You can take that as you like.

He was asked to list seven things that he loved about his truck. Since it was his dream vehicle, the challenge was his. He loves it and so does everyone else in his rural community. It can be used anywhere, whether it’s a bar in the country or an event downtown. It can also haul stuff and tow things, which he considers two distinct reasons. It features cool technology like voice-activated controls and hill-descent, as well as a 10-speed transmission. He wanted a 10-speed bike as a child, so that is why he loves the gearbox. Hey, it’s Hammond.

However, his Ranger Wildtrak relationship doesn’t just involve hugs and puppy love. The six-minute video highlights a single “minor” flaw. You’ll want to take the time to watch it. It’s a truck. Wait, what?

He does limit the cargo space in the bed to make it more practical for trips to the grocery store. How can one carry two bags of Doritos or Jaffa Cakes with so much space at the back?

You might be a long-time Top Gear enthusiast if this all sounds familiar. Jeremy Clarkson’s reaction to the second-generation Ford F-150 Lighting he drove years ago on Top Gear was the same as today. Although we don’t believe this flaw was intentionally staged, Hammond surely knows about the many bed storage options available to trucks.

He could also put his bags in the backseat like most sedan drivers. Just saying.
