However, the company had to remove the rearview mirror cameras and the electric door handles from its concept.
The Volkswagen I.D. production version. The concept will arrive in Europe in the early 2020s. Klaus Bischoff (design boss at Volkswagen) says the model’s road-going design looks very similar to the car that was displayed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
Bischoff stated that the proportions, design cues and wheel size were identical to the concept. Autocar. It looks exactly like the show car. The camera-system rear-view mirrors and electric door handles were not legal options. It’s basically the same except for that.
The I.D. The I.D. is approximately the same size as the VW Golf, and features a futuristic design that resembles the five-door classic hatchback. Bischoff suggests that the concept’s unique headlights may be in the production model. The LED headlights mimic human eyes, blinking up and downward at startup. A pupil-like central section moves with the steering.
The I.D. The I.D. will be VW’s first dedicated electric vehicle built on the new MEB architecture. “We had the rare opportunity to lead Volkswagen into an entirely new age. Electric drive provides greater freedom for designers,” Bischoff told Autocar.
The I.D. was conceptualized. The I.D. featured a 168-horsepower electric motor (125-kilowatt) and a single-speed transmission mounted to the rear axle. This design allowed for more space for the occupants in front. This powertrain enabled the hatchback to travel 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 8 seconds, and reach a top speed at 99 mph (159 Kph). VW stated at the time that it would offer multiple batteries to extend the vehicle’s range from 249 (401 km) to 373 (600 km).
VW will begin building the I.D. The I.D. will be built by VW in November 2019, with sales starting very soon the next year. However, the company will not offer an electric hatchback in the United States. Instead, it will offer a production version. The Crozz concept is expected to arrive in America in 2020. Road-going versions of the I.D. Buzz retro-inspired van, I.D. The Vizzion sedan will be included in VW’s expanding lineup of electric cars.
