Rolls-Royce will continue to sell its two-door model line overseas, even though the 2021 model year is over.
All good things have to come to an end. This includes, if we are to believe, the Rolls Royce Wraith, and Dawn. Two brand-new coupes are expected to be heading off to the big polo match in heaven later this year. A Rolls client spoke to Motor1.com on condition of anonymity. He said that he had received information from a dealer who, in turn, was informed by Goodwood that the 2021 models would be the last two-doors that the company sells in America.
Although Dawn/Wraith’s demise is not surprising, the reasoning is. A company spokesperson said that US regulations are threatening the coupe and drophead in our country, but not any production or sales problems. For the moment, fraternal twins will be available in other markets. We are confident that the Rolls-Royce decision to end US sales was not due to Dawn or the Wraith, but we also believe the platform supporting these twins is contributing to the decision.
Both cars are still the best-selling two-doors, but their roots go back to a BMW 7 Series which was first introduced in 2008. The F01 platform, which underpins Rolls’ two doors, is so old that BMW has already begun a redesign. The Ghost sedan is now along with the Phantom four-door, and the Cullinan SUV from Rolls-Royce Architecture of Luxury.
We aren’t sure what the future holds. These two-door Rolls-Royce models won’t be the last. Sales were strong prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company also has too many coupes and dropheads from the Dawn and Wraith, which makes it difficult for us to predict the end of this line. However, Americans who are extremely wealthy should weigh whether it is better to buy a two-door Roller right away or wait for their soon-to-come-back models. The trials of being extremely wealthy!
