This car is not simple, we suspect.
The Rolls-Royce Ghost teaser campaigns continues. We have already seen the basic outline of the vehicle. The manufacturer calls it minimalist. The second teaser stated that Rolls-Royce customers desire something more subtle and less extravagant, which led to the automaker inventing the awkward phrase post-opulence.
The third teaser is now available, and it focuses on the engineering behind the new luxury vehicle. The message is similar to the other teasers, but it’s simplified. Or, at least, that’s what the marketing-speak message says on the surface. We suspect Ghost engineering is anything other than simple after rewatching this teaser video. The teaser video actually says 13 second after it opens with the phrase “Perfection in Simplicity”. The voiceover then explains that creating an amazing driving experience for Ghost’s new Ghost is a “highly complicated task.”
What does this mean exactly? We are not given any clear information due to the teaser. However, engineers have spent three years designing the suspension. The Planar suspension, also known as the Planar system, includes an upper wishbone damper, forward-looking cameras that monitor road surfaces, and GPS data to predict curves. It is claimed to be both a comfortable and dynamic predictive/reactive suspension.
The Ghost will also feature all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering and, as the automaker pointed out, each Rolls Royce has its own architecture. The new Ghost will be completely new, and designed to be a Ghost. According to teasers, the only items that will be carried over from the current model are the door-stowed umbrellas and Spirit of Ecstasy on the grille.
Jonathan Simms, Rolls-Royce Ghost Engineering Lead, stated that the engineering team had no choice but to start over when it came to creating a new Ghost. “We took our architecture to the next level and created a car that is more dynamic, more luxurious, and most importantly, more easily usable.”
Rolls-Royce will reveal the new Ghost in 2020.
