Rowan Atkinson aka “Mr Bean” has managed to sell his McLaren F1 for the hefty sum of almost £8 million.
The McLaren F1 #61 chassis was purchased as new in 1997 for PS640,000. However, it was crash-bombed twice by the comedian. This has not affected the car’s market value. Taylor & Crawley, a London luxury dealer, announced yesterday that they had sold the F1 at an undisclosed amount ($12.23M / EUR10.84M). This price is close to the PS8million asking price for a British buyer who will “drive it like Rowan”, but hopefully without any incidents.
Atkinson drove his F1 for approximately 41,000 miles (65.983 km). He also rear-ended a Rover Metro in 2009. Two years later, he lost control of his supercar on a slippery road. The car ended up on the side of a road. This second accident was perhaps more tragic and more well-known because the insurers were required to pay PS910,000 for the car’s repair.
