The two heavyweights attempted to smoke one another in the most luxurious way possible.
The United Kingdom is the clear leader in luxury convertibles with 12-cylinder engines. The Rolls-Royce Dawn is up against the Bentley Continental GTC Speed, and Carwow has them in a drag race.
It doesn’t matter which car is faster if you are looking for one of these cars. These cars aren’t designed for speed, but for extreme luxury motoring. These heavyweights don’t have to be slow. For comparison, you can compare their specifications.
The new Bentley Continental GTC S has the Continental GTC Speed, which is a range-topper. The twin-turbo W12 engine produces 650 horsepower (480 kilowatts) as well as 664 lbft (900 Newton-meters) in torque.
The Rolls-Royce Dawn uses a BMW-sourced twin-turbo, 6.6-liter V12 to produce 563 horsepower (420 kW) as well as 605 lb-ft (820Nm) of pulling force. These numbers are sent to the wheels by both land yachts via an 8-speed auto gearbox. The Bentley uses a DCT instead.
These numbers may seem huge, but let’s not forget that both cars are loaded with leather, wood, and other luxury features that make them massive in weight. Despite this, the Continental GTC Speed Speed is 273 pounds lighter than the Dawn (124 kgs). This should be significant considering the differences in power outputs between the heavy machines.
Is the Rolls-Royce Dawn’s inefficiency in output and weight a reason why the Continental GTC Speed won? This video should resolve the matter, and includes a “roof-race” that the Bentley won. We’d love to hear your opinions in the comments below, as always.
