The F-Series still leads all other competitors.
Ford’s F Series of pickups is the most popular American automotive brandplate for decades. The F-Series continues to dominate America’s market, with 214 611 deliveries in the first quarter. The truck segment has something very interesting. It’s not the best-selling model, the Chevrolet Silverado.
The Silverado has 114,313 units shipped through the first three months, which is more than the F-150 segment leader. However, it is now selling less units than the RAM 1500. The new pickup from FCA has seen a 15 percent increase in demand to 120,026 units. This is not surprising considering Ram’s truck often ranks third behind Chevy and Ford. With 40,546 units moved between January and March this year, the GMC Sierra is in fourth place.
We need to clarify a few points. Ram reports that the new 2019 1500 was sold together with the Classic, which is the older generation of the truck still in production. If you combine the Silverado and Sierra math, General Motors still sells more trucks than Ram, but is not close to Ford’s top-seller. Last but not least, the Silverado’s demand has been negative through the first three months of 2019, compared to 2018, with nearly flat F-Series sales and a significant increase in Ram’s deliveries.
The U.S. sales volume of new cars dropped by 3.2 percent in Q1 2019, with the exception of Honda, Hyundai-Kia and Volkswagen Group reporting an increase in March. Sales at FCA fell by 7.3 percent while General Motors saw an 8.3 percent decrease. Ford’s March results showed a 5.2 percent drop in deliveries.
