SEAT Announces the Launch of The New Tarraco SUV by End Of 2018.

It could be fully revealed in Geneva next month.

SEAT decided on the name of its new three-row SUV. Fans and followers of the automaker decided that it is not going to be called Sporty McSportface. SEAT offered a list last year of names options at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Three of these were cities, one of which paid homage to the west region of the Mediterranean Sea. The new Seat Tarraco is here.

People who are familiar with European geography or Roman history will recognize Tarragona’s name as it was once a Roman city on the Iberian Peninsula. Nearly 150,000 people voted for Tarraco in the SEAT naming campaign. This gave Tarraco 35% of the vote, a significant victory over Avila, the runner up.

We now know the name of the SUV. What do we know about it? SEAT has posted the teaser photo above, which shows that the new model will be able to seat seven people. It will also launch at the end 2018; unfortunately, that’s all we have.

SEAT Announces the Launch of The New Tarraco SUV by End Of 2018.

We know that the new SUV will use the VolkswagenGroup’s MQB platform. This platform underpins several current SUVs, including the Skoda Kodiaq as well as the Tiguan Allspace. We expect to see a lot of similarities with these models, and the teaser image certainly shows some of this. Last November, we published a rendering showing how the Tarraco might appear. This teaser proves that we are pretty close.

Although the new SEAT flagship will be officially launched by the end, we expect to see it unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Kodiaq will be the successor to this model, which has a 1.4-liter TSI engine and a 2.0-liter TSI engine. There will also be a diesel option. It is almost certain that a hybrid variant will be added to the mix in the future.
