It reached 140.3 mph in quarter-mile.

The 2011 Chevy corvette Z06 carbon edition burst onto the scene with a powerful V8 engine, and tons of parts from ZR1. Although the Z06 CE did not receive the ZR1 supercharger, it received suspension upgrades and carbon-fiber bits. This made it a powerful performance car that was ready to go to the Texas Mile. It was able to travel an astonishing 242.7 miles per hour (3990.6 kilometers per hour).

Although it’s not clear what modifications were made, the Corvette looks impressive. The has some aerodynamic bits at its back. Struts are bonded to the rear bumper to hold it up. A parachute is also featured on the coupe, which indicates its performance and what it requires when it slows down from almost 250 mph. Chevy introduced the Z06 Carbon Edition with carbon ceramic brakes. However, it is doubtful that this car still has those brakes.

The Z06 Carbon Edition was launched with a naturally-aspirated 7.0-liter LS7V8 that produced 505 horsepower (376 kilowatts), and 470 poundfeet (637 Newton meters) of torque. This engine filled the gap between Z06 and ZR1, which was hotter at the time. The coupe could reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just four seconds, and then accelerate to a top speed at 198 mph (318 kph). This is by far outpaced by the modded Z06.

The modified Z06 accelerates to 242.7 mph and crosses the quarter-mile marker at an astonishing 140.3 mph (2225.7 kph). This is 20 mph faster than the stock Corvette’s quarter mile time. It reached 184.4 mph at the half-mile marker, and 295.7 at the mile mark before reaching the finish line at almost 245 mph.

The legal limit for public roads is 3.5 mph. Cars can go faster and have more power than the law allows. This is a strange dichotomy. Some cars can exceed the speed limit multiple times by simply rolling off the factory floor. It’s difficult to find the right space to harness all that power. Texas Mile standing-mile events allow owners to display their cars and showcase their engineering skills. Modern supercars can reach insane speeds but the modding community keeps old icons like Z06 CE level alongside the modern masters.
