G81 M3 Touring body was built with over 1,200 robots, 6,000 spot welding and more than 6,000 welds.
The BMW M3 Touring is nearing release. BMW production is ramping up to meet demand for the high-performance wagon. The G81 BMW M3 Wagon will combine the best of both BMW M3 performance and the convenience of a wagon to make the perfect family car. BMW M has created a tour video to show how the BMW M3 Wagon was built.
In 2020, the G80 BMW M3 was introduced. It marked a new era in BMW’s legendary sports sedan. The G80 BMW M3 brought with it many controversial changes to the BMW M3 formula, including an optional all-wheel drive, torque converted automatic and controversial styling. The addition of the G81 BMW M3 Touring was the only change that most people agreed with.
The G81 BMW M3 touring is a combination of all the performance and practicality of the G80 BMW M3 but without the higher center of gravity.
BMW M is determined to make the G81 BMW M3 Touring a true M product. BMW M’s video shows that they pay great attention to every detail during production. A fleet of robots construct the body in white. They do all the welding necessary to make a rigid and stable body that will live up to the BMW M badge. Next, Quality Control robots check the work of upstream colleagues to ensure that every weld is correct.
The body is then transferred to the paint booth. This booth is made up of skilled craftspeople and robots that combine to create a superior finish. You can see M3 Tourings in a variety of colors, including purple and a lime-green color. As the G81 wagon goes through various production stations, the precision of robots is combined with the skill of skilled craftspeople. The final product is worthy of the BMW M3 badge.
