The majority of challenges are close-fought.
CarWow’s latest drag race features a trio of cars: an Alpine A110S, Porsche 718 Cayman GTS and Toyota GR Supra 3.0. This group is representative of competitors in the same segment that buyers might consider when looking for performance-focused rear-drive two-doors.
Because the Alpine A110 S brand is not available on North American markets, it is the most unfamiliar vehicle to American viewers. It produces 290 horsepower (216 Kilowatts) as well as 236 pound-feet (321 Newton-meters), of torque. A seven-speed dual clutch gearbox transmits the power to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch transmission.
Porsche 718 Cayman GTS features a 4.0-liter flat-six naturally aspirated engine. The video shows the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS’s 400 horsepower (298 kW) as well as 310 pound-feet (422 Nm). The output for the US market is slightly different at 394 HP (294 kW), and 309 Lb-ft (419Nm) of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a six-speed manual transmission.
The 3.0-liter turbocharged, turbocharged inline six makes 340 hp (254 kW), and 369 lbft (500 Nm) for the European market GR Supra 3.0. Versions in the US have 382 horsepower (285 kW), and 368lb-ft (499Nm). The rear wheels are driven by a seven-speed automatic.
The Alpine starts strong in the drag race. The Porsche pulls ahead of all the rest. The 718 Cayman GTS4.0 4.0 wins the quarter-mile with 12.3 seconds. In 12.6 seconds, the A110 S takes second place. In 12.7 seconds, the Supra comes in second.
The next race is from a 30-mile-per-hour (48-kilometer-per-hour) roll. Although the finish is close, the Supra is still in the lead. The Cayman is in second place and the A110 S is last.
The results of a roll at 50 mph (80 kph), are identical, but the distance between cars at the finish line is longer than ever before. It has the advantage of torque because of the Supra.
The last challenge is the braking test. Porsche wins. Second and third are Alpine and Toyota, respectively.
