After 64 years, the iconic German sports car continues to be a popular choice.
There aren’t many cars today that have a lineage going back more than 60 years. But the Mercedes Benz SL-Class may be one of the few. With its famous doors and 3.0-liter inline six, the 300 SL Gullwing was introduced in 1954. It has been a huge hit and garnered the attention and admiration of almost everyone who has an automotive pulse.
64 years later, the SL still excite with its nearly 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts), available in AMG trim. Even more remarkable is the fact that there has never been a poor generation in all these decades. In fact, there has never been a bad generation, even in the 1970s, when cars were subject to eminent fuel economy and emissions requirements.
