Sharp Design: Opel GTX Experimental Concept Teaser Hints at Sharp Design

This is what Opels will look like in the middle of 2020s.

Opel released a teaser clip to mark one year of becoming a PSA member. It reveals the name of its new concept car, which will be revealed by the end 2018. It’s the GT X Experimental, and it points to the company’s next design style that will be used across all models by the middle 2020s.

Future models will feature the “Opel Compass” at the front. It has two prominent axes that extend from one corner to another, just above and below the company logo. A “Vizor” is also available, which draws inspiration from the eye socket of a motorbike helmet. The “Vizor” frames the LED headlights and daytime running lights as well as the badge, cameras, sensors, and badge. It debuts on GT X Experimental, and will also be available on future road-going vehicles.

Opel has yet to disclose details about the concept’s technical specifications. However, the indicator at the 0:37 mark indicates that it is fully electric. The battery pack is not fully charged, but it gives 475 km (295 miles) of range. A showcar without a traditional front grille and cooling vents indicates that it doesn’t have an engine.

Opel’s new concept car will be on display sometime in the fall. However, the first production model to introduce the new design language is expected to take place at least two years. Although the next-generation Corsa is expected in 2019, its design has been approved for many years. The company might unveil its new styling approach with the new Astra, due to arrive after 2020.
