Shelby launched the limited Series 1 in 1999. Only 249 examples were made of the sports car, with each one costing around $225,000. Nearly two decades have passed since the first Shelby American was introduced to the public. Shelby American decided to reintroduce the car to the public using a few monocoque chassis. This is the new Shelby Series 2.

Underhood buyers have the option of either a Shelby-tuned, 427 FE engine, or a Ford-tuned, 427 Windsor motor. Although the company does not specify how many horsepower are available in the basic trim, it suggests that it will support more than 800 horsepower.

Shelby American president Gary Patterson stated that the Shelby Series 2 is still based on the original car. However, it represents a major leap forward. It combines old-school craftsmanship with modern technology, making the roadster a supercar. Wingard Motorsports can finish the Shelby in part form. Customers can choose from an assortment of design elements including an aluminum body that has been polished, brushed or painted with Shelby racing stripes accents, or a cabin covered in leather and Alcantara depending on their preference.
