Shmee hits 202 MPH in his Ford GT without breaking any laws

Although not quite at the official top speed of 216 mph, it is still very fast.

The Ford GT V-Max mode is described by the Blue Oval as “every setting is tuned to make it go as fast as possible.” To reduce drag and reach the quoted speed of 216 mph (348 km/h), it lowers the ride height by 50 millimeters (or 1.96 inches). YouTuber wanted to test that number by taking his GT, which is amazingly specced, to an unrestricted section on the Autobahn in Germany.

It’s not easy to reach the maximum speed claimed by Ford, as you’ll see. The GT reached 186 mph (300 km/h), according to the digital speedometer. However, the GPS-based app on the smartphone showing 183 mph (295km/h) is more accurate and Shmee claims there was not much left in the GT that could go faster.

The twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with twin turbos, is very thirsty at full throttle. The GT has a 15.2-gallon tank. It’s not surprising that the fuel level dropped to a quarter after just a few hard acceleration runs. V-Max mode was a great choice. It made a huge difference in terms not only of the absolute top speed but also how fast it got there. According to Shmee’s app, it reached 202 mph (324 km/h), or 195 mph (314km/h).This   is still a significant decrease in speed than the Ford GT’s official top speed, but a remarkable velocity for a car that has “only” one V6. After the V-Max top speed, which was at 4 km, it showed its true colors. The available range dropped to 2 and 1/2 miles (4 km). Range anxiety is not just a concern for EV owners. Even those with a $500,000 car can have it.

Shmee was careful with his accelerator pedal and eventually made it to the gas station where he refilled his Liquid Red GT. The supercar was full and could get back on the Autobahn to do another speed run. However, traffic got in his way so he had the car stop. The rear wing acted as an airbrake, and it stayed up until the car stopped completely. Ford GT would be able to achieve its top speed if it had a longer, more open road.
