Two crossovers are in the works.
Genesis remains true to its original plan to offer six models in the future. Only a few more years are needed to add vehicles to the lineup.
“We will have an expansion of our product range-up until 2021. We will have six vehicles out, of which the first SUV will be followed shortly afterwards,” Manfred Fitzgerald, Global Head of Genesis Brand, stated. Auto. “Then, we will have even more exciting body styles that I won’t reveal at the moment, but which will be revealed in the future.”
The GV80 will be Genesis’ first crossover. This crossover will share a platform and the G80 sedan. This indicates the availability of both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive layouts. The engine lineup should include a naturally aspirated V6, twin-turbo V6 and a 5.0-liter H8. After a debut at the auto show this year, expect the GV80’s sale in 2020.
Although there isn’t much information about the crossover, a leaked 2016 product plan (below), indicates that the model will be smaller than the GV80. It would likely be called the GV70, following Genesis’ naming scheme. The vehicle will likely be identical to the G70 sedan.
Fitzgerald’s reference “more exciting body types” is likely to refer to the near-luxury sports coupe in the leaked product plan. This is most likely a two-door version of the G70. Genesis could make a production version of its essentia electric sportscar concept . Fitzgerald stated previously that the brand’s first electric vehicle was due to be available for purchase in 2021.
