Sixty six Devel Sixty Literally Takes

Mercedes-AMG GT S In Drag Race

… and a G Class

The Devel Sixty, which is brought to you by the same people who created the crazy Devel Sixteen is an entirely new beast. This bizarre vehicle is basically a tank with six wheels. It makes vehicles like the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 or the Mercedes-AMG G636x6 seem quaint. The Mercedes go-faster division, Affalterbach’s diesel monster, was pitted against the lovely red GT S at drag strip. This is easily the most bizarre drag race you will see today.

Let’s first take a look at the specifications. Under the apocalyptic exterior is a massive 6.75-liter V8 turbodiesel engine with 720 horsepower and 1,000 Newton-meters (738 pounds-feet). Plot twist: The Devel Sixty concept shown in the video is not a “base model”, as there’s also an upgraded version with 1,500 horsepower.

The Mercedes-AMG GT S is located in the opposite corner. It doesn’t need any introduction. Aficionados are familiar with its biturbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 515 horsepower and 670 Nm (494lb-ft).

After that, most people would agree that the AMG is still faster than the standard car. This is due to its lower curb weight and performance. In the U.S. base specification, the coupe weighs in at 3,627 lbs (1,645 kg). This is a lot less than the massive six-wheeled monster with its huge 40-inch tires. Devel will sell the standard production model at $450,000 with an optional carbon fiber body.

The $132,400 Mercedes-AMG GT S would have easily won the race if it had been strictly based on its performance numbers. Official figures show it can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.7 seconds, while Devel estimates that the Sixty finishes the task in 5.8 seconds. Perhaps the outcome of the duel will not matter as much as the sight of a 6×6 diesel brick-shaped colossus with military-grade tires at drag strip.
