It’s like playing in a league all its own.
Skoda appears to be very excited about the next-generation Fabia. Although we have only seen an early prototype disguised in a Volkswagen Polo, the automaker is keen to share more information before the 2021 debut of the Fabia.
The new Fabia was announced by Thomas Schafer, Skoda’s CEO in September. He also confirmed that the fourth-generation Fabia would get a station wagon variant. This is a continuation of a 20-year-old Czech tradition.
Schaefer stated that he will once again offer a combi [wagon] model on his LinkedIn Page. This was as Automotive News reports. “This is important for us as it underlines the commitment of offering affordable, practical mobility within the entry-level segments.
The Fabia Combi will remain an exclusive product on the European market, with Renault and Peugeot now out of subcompact wagons. The more practical Fabia, which was launched in 2000, has been sold in over 1.6 million units, representing around 35 percent of Fabia’s total sales.
The new Fabia will finally transition to Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 platform . This platform already supports its sister models, the VW Polo and SEAT Ibiza as well as the Audi A1. The powertrain options will include either a 6-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. A mild-hybrid technology, or some form of electrification, should also be possible.
It will be interesting to see if the Fabia RS returns after a one-generation hiatus. Two years ago a report suggested a hot hatch that would be based on Fabia RS’ fourth-gen model. However, there is no official confirmation.
