The Fabia hatchback will be available alongside the current wagon.

Skoda announced that the all new Fabia will be available in 2021. However, the Fabia’s hatchback body style will remain for the time being. Although the Combi body style is confirmed for the next generation, it will not be revealed alongside the supermini.

Thomas Schafer, the company’s boss, made the disclosure in an interview with German magazine Auto Motor und Sport. The plan was to keep the Fabia wagon in stock until 2022, and then launch a replacement at the start of 2023. Skoda will now sell nearly two years’ worth of nameplates simultaneously, a move that recalls the time when the second-gen-based Octavia Tour co-existed peacefully for a time.

Skoda appears to be taking its time with the renewal of the Fabia’s long-roof Fabia. While this will disappoint fans of small, practical cars, it is a good idea to see the whole picture. Skoda is one of the few automakers that still has a subcompact wagon after Renault discontinued the Clio Sport Tourer, Dacia MCV and Dacia Ibiza ST. However, Skoda can continue to sell the Fabia Combi for a couple of more years.

Thomas Schafer, a Mlada Boleslav representative, revealed that the brand will launch its next generation of the pint-sized Citigo equipped with a combustion engine in the same interview. It will compete with the recently seen 2022 Toyota Aygo, and other small city cars that are part of an endangered A segment in Europe because of stricter emission regulations.

The Fabia hatch will be launched alongside a coupe-esque Enyaq fully-electric SUV. We also expect the Kodiaq large SUV, to undergo a makeover.
